All natural fiber bilum bag, handwoven with natural plant fibers by female artisans. The fibers are hand processed by sourcing, stripping, and twisting local plants into string. Pigment is achieved through soaking and boiling items such as berries, tree bark and mud.
Handwoven by the Highlands women of Papua New Guinea, using the skills and knowledge passed down from their ancestors. Each bag is unique, reflecting the process of sourcing the fiber and dying the bilum that is specific to each weaver. One bilum can take several months to complete.
